ISE ONTARIO
IS SEEKING VOLUNTEER FAMILIES WHO CAN PROVIDE: a room, meals and a caring stable environment for a student
who will attend your school and share your weekend activities.
EXPERIENCE CANADA has been
developed in response to the wish of students in Europe
to experience Canada
first hand, its wilderness and its day to day life. We believe
that this program will also be enriching to host families and
school communities, and that Ontario
students may then have the opportunity to go abroad the
following summer to visit their guest student, experience a
different culture and explore another country. The previous
EXPERIENCE CANADA
programs have been positive experiences for those involved and
each year a group of the hosting Ontario
students leaves in mid-July to spend approximately 5 weeks
with their partner.
Over many years, very large numbers of students in Germany
have applied to come to
Ontario
on a 3 month exchange, and so many have been disappointed
because of unequal numbers of
Ontario
applicants.
EXPERIENCE CANADA was offered
to students in Germany
and Spain
this year, and the response has been very good. This program
starts in early September when the group arrives in Toronto
and spends a day on an excursion to
Niagara Falls
and a day in downtown
Toronto. They then board a bus and head for northern
Ontario
to spend two weeks on a wilderness adventure that includes
base camp orientation, a canoe trip and white water rafting.
In late September the
students return to Toronto
for pick up after dinner by their host families. Over the next
few days they adjust to their host home, explore the host
community, learn about their host school courses and
activities, and receive a schedule of classes to attend.
During October they audit classes and participate in their
host family's day to day life. Specific courses are not
required, and the student is not placed on the school
register. A final comment form will be provided for the Ontario
teachers. The visiting students may be asked by teachers to
talk to various classes about their country and culture. The
students depart at the beginning of November.
Host families provide a room and meals, and include the
visiting student as a member of the family in all their
activities, both chores and fun. Ontario
offers many unique fall events that are exciting for visitors,
events such as fall fairs, artists' studio tours, native Pow-Wows,
apple picking, colour tours, Thanksgiving, Hallowe'en ... and
the major attractions such as Wonderland, Ste Marie, Fort
Henry
... are still open.
The visiting students have their own emergency medical
insurance and of course they bring their own spending money.
Ontario
families will be provided with a guide for hosting and the
file of the visiting student; communication can then begin
right away.
Host families are asked to complete the hosting form and send
it to ISE Ontario by June 30th.
ISE ONTARIO is the contact for the visiting students, the host
families and schools during the entire program. We thank you
